Nov. 26--DeFUNIAK SPRINGS -- After the winery's opening in July of 1990, Chautauqua wines found their way onto the shelves of local grocers and liquor stores, even Wal-Mart.

After 10 years of selling its wines at a wholesale cost with little profit, however, the winery took its products off the shelf.

"On the economy scale, it's very difficult to compete in Crestview's stores against larger producers," said Chautauqua winemaker George Cowie.
