Viewing loan production as a profit center is different enough. But selling new servicing as an optimal part of your strategy is downright strange in mortgage banking circles. Not so at North American Mortgage, which approaches things a little differently.
NORTH AMERICAN MORTGAGE COMPANY may be one of the most conservatively managed mortgage banking firms in the United States. It uses accounting methods that are scrupulous in trying to reflect actual economic value of mortgage company assets--even within the uncertainties of current accounting standards. At the same time the firm takes the quite contrarian view that mortgage origination is a profit center.
