Elections to the Histadrut Trade Union Federation produced one of the biggest upheavals in Israeli labor history, when former Health Minister Haim Ramon, running on an independent, reformist ticket, wrestled control of the federation away from the Labor Party. The Histadrut was seen as a fief of the Labor Party, which had controlled it since it wa3 founded 73 years ago.
Ramon, however, did not receive over 50 percent of the vote and was forced to enter into coalition negotiations, which at time of writing are still ongoing. His most likely coalition partner will be the Labor Party.
