Ask anyone working in the geospatial industry why GIS matters and you're likely to get some variation of the following: "Geography is an integrating concept; it provides the context to understand and act on many data. Maps are powerful visual tools, revealing trends and information that can't be assimilated as easily or quickly any other way." Now walk out the front door of your building and ask the first person you meet the same question. Odds are, you'll get a blank stare in reply.
