Over the past few years, the Holy Cross Crusaders became too good for their own good.
Holy Cross, a member of the little Patriot League, earned three consecutive NCAA Tournament bids from 2001 to 2003.
Beyond that, though, the Crusaders threw huge March Madness-type scares into Kentucky, Kansas and Marquette. Kentucky escaped its 2001 first-round game with Holy Cross with a four-point win. Kansas' 70-59 win over Holy Cross was closer than the final score. And Marquette, on its way to a Final Four appearance, survived a 72-68 nail-biter against the Crusaders.
