JACKSON -- In an October 13 letter to House Ways and Means Committee chairman Bill Thomas (R- Calif.) and the committee's ranking Democrat Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.), the Catfish Institute lobbied Congress to take steps to insure that imported fish is safe for American consumers as a new trade treaty with Vietnam is before Congress.
"Continued use by Asian fish farmers of banned antibiotics and a carcinogenic chemical in fish exported to the United States must be addressed by the federal government as freer trade relations are sought," said Roger Barlow, president of The Catfish Institute, a nonprofit organization based in Jackson that promotes U.S. farm-raised ...
