Any actor should be able to play dramatically different roles. It's the nature of the craft. Yet one of the true tests of any actor - and one of the joys of series television - is watching someone portray the same character over time, bringing out new nuances with the passage of years.
On that count, "Prime Suspect: The Final Act" makes a strong case for something many have long suspected: Helen Mirren might just be our finest living actor.
