Tourism chiefs want to transform a rundown seaside town into the St Ives of the North.
The real St Ives in Cornwall is a bustling resort with fine beaches, an array of shops, art galleries and places to eat and drink.
The town originally thrived on its fishing and mining industries but is the Number One tourist destination for Cornwall.
Now North Tyneside Council wants to revitalise Whitley Bay and create a cultural coastline to mirror St Ives.
