Nov. 29--Tears ran down Celia Sanchez's face. She dabbed at her eyes with tissue and sobbed softly as her attorney told prospective jurors "this is not a happy case."
A jury of five women and three men was selected Tuesday in the U.S. District Court in Victoria to hear the case of Sanchez v. Goliad County. John D. Rainey is the presiding judge.
Sanchez claims to have been raped and tortured in the Goliad County Jail, and filed a federal Civil Rights lawsuit against Goliad County and Sheriff Robert DeLaGarza. Sanchez further alleges that she and other female inmates were routinely coerced into providing sexual favors to guards ...
