Nov. 26--A diamond-studded tiara doesn't do much on its own, but pair it with a live broadcast on national television and cities like Palm Springs clamor for the crown.
Palm Springs played host to three pageants this year, including Donald Trump's Miss Teen USA broadcast in August on NBC.
A 30-second commercial in a top market nationwide can average $150,000 for a less-than-popular serial show to $600,000 for NBC's finest.
The final show featured a lengthy ode to Palm Springs with contestants filmed in and around the city and innumerable mentions of the city throughout the show.
