Dec. 1--UC Berkeley's Memorial Stadium has been added to the National Register of Historic Places, just a week before university leaders are to vote on extensive renovations for the 83-year-old facility.
The designation, announced Monday by the National Park Service, adds one more wrinkle to the construction proposal. University of California officials, threatened with a lawsuit by the city of Berkeley, already have delayed a vote once. University planners said they support the stadium's inclusion on the National Register and said it will not complicate the renovation plan.
