Now that compact discs have been on the market for more than a decade, the question of their longevity has once again surfaced. Since CD-ROMs can cost a consumer quite a bit of money, stable data is something to he considered. To put buyers at ease, companies such as 3M Software Media and CD-ROM Services and Disc Manufacturing Inc. (DMI) are offering warrantees on their products. However, the consensus within the replication industry, based upon interviews conducted by Tape/Industry Business is that if a disc is manufactured within tight specifications, longevity is not an issue.
