NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Following is a statement by Doug Harrison, founder and CEO of The SCOOTER Store, on The SCOOTER Store's workforce reduction:
I regret to announce that The SCOOTER Store has been forced to reduce its workforce by 200 people due to Medicare's flawed decision to significantly cut reimbursement fees for power wheelchairs (28%) and scooters (38%). Medicare claims the cuts are in response to utilization spiraling out of control. The reality is that utilization of the Medicare mobility benefit has dropped almost 30% since 2003 and is 10% (12,000 units per year) below Medicare's own estimate of appropriate utilization. ...
