Dec. 2--DaVaughn Perkins' night as the star of the Vern Ekfelt Invitational ended in an ambulance. Shortly after beating highly regarded Ray Hall of team champion North Kansas City (Mo.) Oak Park in the 152-pound finals, the unbeaten Omaha North wrestler got violently ill and collapsed. Paramedics took him from the North gym on a stretcher and to a hospital for tests. Perkins' opponent Friday night was one of the top 10 sophomore wrestlers nationally in his weight class a year ago, leading to coaches voting for Perkins as the outstanding wrestler of the 14-team, two-day meet.
