Dec. 2--In a season where there are many stories about Bethlehem, one local man has a story of his own. Michael Diek was born in Bethlehem in 1973. His family was Christian, and the city was under Israel's authority.
"We had peace because Bethlehem is a tourist town," Diek said. "We didn't have many problems. We had a nice life there."
Diek opted out of further education at an early age to begin work as a wood carver. He said that was how many families made a living. Olive woodcarvings from the Holy Land were popular sellers.
