"I've been in the navigation business almost a decade, and have seen several traffic aggregators and solutions come and go. I think traffic-enabled navigation systems' time has finally arrived," said Dave Marsh, Director of Navigation for Cobra Electronics Corp.
Cobra's NAV ONE 3000 portable, paperback-sized personal navigator tries to be more akin to in-dash systems, featuring a 5.5-inch display and an embedded gyro for dead reckoning.
"For portable solutions, cost can be more of an issue, so I suspect RDS/TMC [radio data system/traffic message channel] over FM radio likely will be the preferred traffic data delivery method in this market," Marsh said. ...
