Nov. 29--PAWTUCKET -- Mayor James E. Doyle, business leaders and downtown residents are mobilizing to save the Pawtucket-Central Falls train station. But a vote by the City Council next week could seal the 90-year-old building's fate.
The council is scheduled to vote Wednesday on whether to acquire the train station by eminent domain, or condemnation.
The measure, an attempt by city planners to control what happens to the building, would take the train station away from an out-of-state developer who says he intends to build a CVS drugstore on the property, first removing part of the facade.
