The cost of a 'basket' of residential communications services has fallen from [pounds sterling]113.40 ($217) in 2001 to [pounds sterling]76.20 ($146) four years later, according to research that Ofcom, Britain's UK regulatory agency, released this week.

Ofcom says the report, called "The Consumer Experience," highlights many benefits from increased competition and new technologies, such as falling prices, increased customer satisfaction and a greater range of services.

However, Ofcom says, the report also reveals concerns over the growing potential for consumer harm as communications markets become more complex.
