A Centurion man who axed an interior decorator to death because "voices" told him to become a serial killer yesterday lost his bid to appeal against his conviction and life imprisonment sentence.

This is more than two-and-a-half years after Jose da Silva was sentenced in 2004 by Pretoria High Court Judge Johan Els.

Da Silva, after serving some years of his sentence, yesterday asked the court for leave to appeal. Els turned this down, saying another court was unlikely to alter the conviction and sentence.
