Dec. 5--The United Steelworkers chief contract negotiator told striking Akron union members Monday that Goodyear miscalculated and made a "foolish" business proposal to stop providing for health care.

Negotiator Tom Conway, Steelworkers International vice president in charge of Goodyear negotiations, met with more than 200 members of Local 2 for about two hours Monday afternoon at the union's Kelly Avenue hall. The local has about 470 members who make race tires in Goodyear's Akron factory.
