With increasing use of wireless communication, researchers are interested in the level of radiofrequency fields emitted by mobile phones and whether a correlation exists between use of cell phones and risk of gliomas in adults. Research studies have shown positive associations among the diagnosis of grade IV astrocytoma (glioma) and ipsilateral (on the same side as the tumor) cell phone use (including use in rural areas and use of analog mobile phones).
