High Point- As imports have grown to dominate the metal bed category, queen-size beds at $299 retail have become common and the remaining handful of U.S. manufacturers - most of them high-end resources - no longer try to compete at such price points.

And no domestic resource plans to change its business model anytime soon.

Their prices typically are two to three times that of imports, but domestic companies say they offer important benefits to retailers and consumers, including customized product and styles and designs no one else has.
