Dec. 6--WASHINGTON -- The boyish rebel, diminutively described as Yankee Doodle Dandy by English Redcoats in singsong fashion, stuck a feather in his cap and trotted his pony into town.
Centuries later, two congressmen -- including Lowell's Marty Meehan -- are simultaneously trying to seize a slice of history from that age-old ditty to shine significance on towns in their districts.
While it's safe to assume the Democratic lawmakers won't trade cannon volleys over their competing efforts, a faint tone of sharpening stone on bayonet might be audible.
