Dec. 7--The Allen County Commissioners voted Wednesday to delay implementing the recently passed smoking ordinance until June 1.
The ordinance bans smoking in most public places except for bars, private clubs and bowling alleys between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. The ordinance was originally scheduled to take effect Jan. 1.
Allen County Commissioner Nelson Peters had argued for the change, saying the commissioners had received feedback from leaders of incorporated areas within the county who were worried they wouldn't have the time to conduct the public hearings necessary to decide whether they should opt out of the ordinance.
