Dec. 7--When it comes to sports, men and women aren't created equal.
At least when it comes to the knee joint.
A variety of studies have shown that women athletes run a far greater risk of injuring their anterior cruciate ligament than their male counterparts. And the incidences of ACL tears in women athletes are growing more frequent because the way women play their sports has evolved significantly in recent years.
Women's sports were at one time dominated by a slower, defensive style. But as skill levels have increased, women's games are now played with more speed, power and precision.
