SALZBURG, Austria - Mozart's music. The artistry of Amadeus. Wolfgang as wurst.
As the hoopla over the 250th anniversary of his birth winds down, even some Mozart maniacs are expressing relief. The genius composer has been played, displayed - and exploited - in ways never seen before.
"What did the Mozart Year bring us?" asked music critic Wilhelm Sinkowitz in the daily Presse. "Money. Lots of money."
This week, another major Mozart moment - Tuesday's com memoration of his death 215 years ago at age 35 - briefly turned attention from the yearlong birthday party that will extend into January.
