Red Sox manager Terry Francona tried to ease the way for newly acquired shortstop Julio Lugo during a question-and-answer session yesterday at the fourth annual Christmas at Fenway.
Alex Gonzalez wowed Red Sox fans with his exploits in the field last season but was allowed to sign with the Cincinnati Reds. Francona conceded that Lugo's glove is not as golden as Gonzalez', but according to Francona, the other aspects of Lugo's game are an upgrade at the most important position in the infield.
