Karla Quintanilla and Rodolfo Orellana have a lot in common.

The Pacifica, CA, couple grew up in the same Nicaraguan town, have known each other since childhood, and even share family ties--Karla's aunt is married to Rodolfo's uncle. But it wasn't until Karla visited Rodolfo in 2003--she had been living in the United States and he in Mexico--that the two became close. "At first it was nothing romantic," recalls Karla. "We just hung out and talked. But we got along so well." They began a long-distance relationship after that trip; a year later, Rodolfo proposed, and the two settled in the U.S.
