Dec. 8--With every swipe of a gift card, the mood gets a little merrier at Atlanta-based InComm.
The prepaid card giant is building a booming business around the increasingly popular premise that good things come in small rectangles. And there are a lot of those coming this year.
Gift cards have popped up at just about every possible shopping opportunity -- CVS sells cards for Starbucks and the Gap, Kroger hawks cards for Circuit City and Macy's. Chalk up the bulging new displays to mega middleman InComm, which markets and distributes prepaid cards for everything from airfare to airtime.
