Dec. 11--What's the price? How much you pay depends on the type of tree you want and sometimes how tall it is, said Mary Utzig of Utzig Tannenbaum Acres in Janesville. Christmas trees typically are one of three kinds: pine, spruce or fir. Pines are the cheapest because they grow the fastest-about eight years for one to be 6 feet tall, Utzig said. They also have the most pitch. Prices typically range about $20 to $25. Spruces cost about $30 to $35 because they don't grow quite as fast-12 years to hit 6 feet, she said.
