Abstract
Frank Lloyd Wright's association with Japan was a long and largely auspicious one that developed on a number of levels over many years. He was the architect of the second Imperial Hotel (demolished 1968), a major collector of Japanese art, an aggressive dealer in Japanese woodblock prints, and an admirer of traditional Japanese architecture and landscape design. He made his first trip to Japan in 1905 and returned for the last time in 1922.
