ATLANTA - At Atlanta Ballet (AB), the tin cup has been rattling so loudly for so long that it has drowned out artistic director Robert Barnett's dreams. Result: He has resigned a year in advance of his planned retirement in June 1995.
Barnett made the decision last February, and in a March 1994 letter to AB's board of trustees he discussed the budgetary strictures that had been imposed on him. "Except for the dedication and quality of the dancers' work, the last five years have been unbearable," Barnett wrote.
