WE may be willing to pay more for a fillet of wild salmon or a bag of muddy organic vegetables partly because of taste, but also because we think they are better for us. But are we getting what we've paid for?

Research by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has revealed that an increasing amount of 'top quality' produce sold in supermarkets, independent food stores and even farmers' markets may not be quite what it seems, as less than scrupulous traders pretend ordinary produce is the premium product - for which the consumer pays a premium price.
