Dec. 12--ALBANY -- Sex offenders on parole must now submit to random, mandatory lie-detector tests under a program aimed at preventing them from committing new crimes.

Already used in many states and by the federal government, the program announced Monday is spurred by the training of 10 new officers dedicated to giving the lengthy and complicated exams, said Angela Jimenez, the state Division of Parole's director of operations.

Two officers will be assigned to each of the division's five regions in the state. Three others will be available to help out where needed.
