Dec. 12--The bows atop the money collection boxes that greeted riders as they boarded Owensboro buses Monday meant more than holiday cheer -- they meant a free ride.
For the next two weeks, the Owensboro Transit Department will carry riders around town without charge as part of the city's first 12 Days of Christmas program, which runs through Dec. 22.
For Donna Cox of Owensboro, the fare-free rides will mean an extra bit of cash for Christmas this year. Cox takes the bus to and from work each day and spends about $12 a week on fares.
