Not long before Sally Deutsch died at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine, her daughter, Arlene Prexa, told her, "Mom, it's OK if you want to spend Christmas with Dad. ... He's been waiting an awfully long time."
Deutsch, 90, succumbed to a flu more than 60 years after her husband, Sylvester, died of a brain tumor when he was 34.
"They were soulmates," said Prexa, whose earliest memories include her parents sitting outside the house on their farm near Jordan.
