Dec. 13--New Texas Tech chancellor Kent Hance never had to be briefed on the role of Amarillo and the university's health sciences center here in the time he officially took office 13 days ago.
Hance, 64, the Dimmitt native and former state senator and congressman from the Texas Panhandle, was aware of that a long time ago.
"This goes back to when Preston Smith was governor and what (former state senator) Teel Bivins did," said Hance. "The leadership of West Texas got us in position to have one of the leading health complexes of this kind there is."
