Then: In the late 1990s, a group of Leavenworth residents decided it was time to preserve and celebrate the area's history in a museum. It wasn't until Keith Williams, director of the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center, approached Leavenworth with an idea that the Wenatchee museum open an Upper Valley Museum in Leavenworth.
The Upper Valley Museum started at a time when the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center was going through its own financial contraints due to cuts in the city of Wenatchee's budget, which pays for staff. All museum staff, including Williams, worked part-time due to the cuts.
