Dec. 14--SHELBY -- From fried fish to chicken, public health advocates have zeroed in on frying oils containing artificial trans fats, which have been linked to raising the risk of coronary heart disease.
The New York City Board of Health unanimously voted Dec. 5 to ban artery-clogging artificial trans fats in the city's eateries by July 1, 2008. Cleveland County isn't close to following New York City's example because state inspectors aren't required to ask if trans fats are in foods, according to Cleveland County Health Department Environmental Health Supervisor Marty Allen.
