Editors' Note: Michael Dowd is director of the Battered Women's Justice Center at Pace University School of Law in White Plains, New york. In the wake of the high-profile John and Lorena Bobbitt trials, the editors asked Dowd to reflect on the legal issues surrounding domestic violence.
