The country's cable industry is still in the doldrums operating at no more than 27% of its installed capacity in 2005. Demand has remained weak for cable on the domestic in the past five years.

According to chairman of the Association of Cable Producers (Apkabel) Toto Adhitia Sukatendel demands for both electrical and telephone cables fell when the country was hit by he monetary crisis in 1998. The condition has not improved much until 2005.
