In a single afternoon recently I noted the references to Homer I came upon casually; the Odyssey cafe, a Samuel Palmer picture, a reference to James Joyce's Ulysses, and even the ubiquitous sound of sirens in the London streets. Homer encompasses us. In a time of war how prescient the Iliad reads. Always memorable are those travels in 'the realms of gold' in the Odyssey.
