The author of Aristocrats has now branched out into royal biography. Her concern here is two-fold: the affairs and marriages of George III's brothers and sisters and the King's involvement in them. The stories that she tells are centred on the conflict between duty and desire because the King expected his siblings to marry Protestant royalty, as had been the usual custom for centuries. Perhaps the least unhappy marriage was that of the King's older sister, Augusta, who married the Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. ...
