Dec. 15--In Pennsylvania, old water heaters don't die. They don't even fade away.
They miraculously find new life in $150,000-a-year sweetheart jobs created just for them.
Not all water heaters, of course. Just the big one, Sen. Water Heater himself -- Joe Conti, the Bucks County Republican.
For most of his 12-year legislative career, he was known as a likable and responsive politician. Then came the 2 a.m. vote in July 2005 in which Conti voted with the majority of lawmakers to give themselves hefty pay raises.
Then came the explosive public backlash to those raises, followed by a tail-between-the-legs ...
