Dec. 16--ST. CLOUD -- Howard Mink has no special plans to observe today's anniversary of the start of World War II's pivotal Battle of the Bulge. Already a war hero when the Germans pushed back against advancing Allies, Mink was severely wounded in combat with effects that linger to this day. A head injury not only ended his military service but left the decorated veteran too disabled to work. Now 87, Mink and his wife, Ethel, have lived in St. Cloud for 28 years, residing in a tree-shaded home on a quiet street.
