Dec. 16--The first thing former House Speaker Raymond Sanchez said about current Speaker Ben Lujan in an interview last week was: "He's a true Democrat."
But what many people don't know is Lujan comes from a Republican family.
Like many Hispanic families in New Mexico in the era before Franklin Roosevelt, Lujan's family members were Republicans.
He said his uncle, former Probate Judge Sefarino Lujan, was one of the last Republican candidates to win
county office in Santa Fe.
