Commonwealth secretary-general Don McKinnon captured international consensus on Zimbabwe this week when he said nothing could be done to resolve the Zimbabwe crisis as long as President Robert Mugabe remained in power. The world had no option but to wait for Mugabe to go before trying anything new to end the plethora of crises in South Africa's northern neighbour.
But the world will have to wait much longer, as Mugabe's ruling Zanu-PF has endorsed a plan to keep him in office using its majority in parliament to delay presidential elections due in 2008 by another two years.
