Innovation is essential to keeping music vibrant. We have sitar maestro Ravi Shankar to thank for introducing the two-drum set, tablas, as lead instruments in Indian music, and Andres Segovia for pushing the guitar to the forefront of Western classical. When we contemplate just who may do the same for the harp, rarely seen as a lead (although often soloing) instrument, we need look no further than the Tierra Caliente tradition of Mexico.
