Retailer Dick's Sporting Goods has agreed to pay a reported $40 million over two decades to put its name on the new home of the Colorado Rapids soccer team.
The 18,000-seat stadium, surrounded by two dozen soccer and lacrosse fields, is set to open in Commerce City in April. The park is the centerpiece of a sprawling commercial and retail development called Prairie Gateway.
"We think we can lay claim to the finest soccer complex in the Americas," Stan Kroenke, the sports mogul who owns the Rapids, said at a news conference on Wednesday to unveil the naming-rights deal.
