Dec. 18--Arizona State University tried the "upcoming but unknown" route when it hired Dirk Koetter to be its football coach in 2000. That experiment was deemed less than successful, so ASU vice president of athletics Lisa Love this time turned to a well-known name with a championship pedigree: Dennis Erickson. While Erickson has a couple of national titles to his credit -- winning championships in 1989 and 1991 when he coached Miami (Fla.) -- he also has a reputation as a job-hopper.
